Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon Creating Two World Records

Perched in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River of Tibet in China, Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is the deepest canyon in the world. There are 4 grand rare waterfall complexes on the river bed of uninhabited reaches of the canyon, some of which have the drop of 30 to 50 meters.

The canyon has 9 vertical zonations from alpine ice-snow zonation to low river-valley tropical monsoon forest and is rich in biological resources, including two-thirds known higher plants, one-seconds known mammals and four-fifths known insects of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, and three-fifths known macro-fungi of China, so it absolutely can be ranked as “The Most Species in the World”. Furthermore it creates 2 world records of “The Deepest Canyon in the World” and “The Longest Canyon in the World”, approved by China World Records Association.

Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is world famous for its height, majesty, depth, humectation, quiet and length.

On both sides of the canyon rise straight up 2 peaks named Namjagbarwa and Jialarbai with the respective altitude of 7782m and 7234m. Wreathed by the mist, the towering peaks rise steeply into the clouds with glaciers hanging down.

Having a bird view of the canyon in the air, among the countless snow peaks and green mountains in the east end of Himalaya Mountain Range, Yarlung Zangbo River firmly cuts a straightly steep canyon, passes through the barrier of high mountains and surrounds Namjagbarwa Mountain, forming vagarious curve as a shape of a horse hoof, then it pours into the Indian Ocean from south, whose magnificent and vagarious scene is unrivaled.

The deepest place of Yarlung Zangbo River between the Namjagbarwa Mountain and Jiialarbai Mountain reaches the depth of 5382m, and far exceeds Colorado Grand Canyon with the depth of 2133m, Colca Canyon with the depth of 3200m and Kali Gandak Canyon with the depth of 4403m.

Yarlung Zangbo River is the largest vapor channel on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Influenced by the warm and wet airflow, the amount of precipitation of the south section of the canyon hits 4000 mm, and the north section is also between 1500mm to 2000mm, so the whole region of the canyon is thoroughly moist, and covered with luxuriant and dense forests, forming a canyon with the most abundant biological variety.
