Travel Trends In 2010

The past year has been a tricky time for the travel market. With the recession in full swing many people have dramatically cut back on their spending and have put extravagances and luxuries on hold. This downturn in spending has affected the travel industry more than most and in 2009 the market dipped to an unexpected low. So is there any better news for the travel market this year? Well, yes and no. As the financial market begins to pick up so will the number of people booking vacations, but the type, cost and destination of holidays will most certainly see a dramatic change in the coming months.

It’s these financial problems that will see a rise in families foregoing their usual holidays abroad to stay closer to home this year. This will most certainly be a boast to tourism in the UK and will undoubtedly help soften the blow from a decreased number of foreign travelers visiting the country, but travel companies offering trips abroad will still be forced to offer bigger and better selections of budget deals to entice the money shy holiday maker to book.

Getting away from the cold weather seems to be only reason for holiday makers to flee the British Isles in 2010. The freezing winter has sent minds wondering onto sandy beaches and warm waters so the quick hop across the pond to a much warmer climate is more appealing than ever. Although travel abroad will seem less popular the market will still see a rise in holiday makers trying to grab a last minute bargain trip and because of this more holiday makers than ever before will book their travel online.

For the thrifty and adventurous travelers camping in the UK will be all the rage this year. A cheap and cheerful getaway combined with a taste of the outdoors is getting everyone excited about dusting of the tent and heading to the countryside for a different kind of budget holiday. Another great money saver will be caravanning holidays, the cheap alternative to self catering apartments. Caravanning holidays were steadily gaining popularity with UK holiday makers with a 15% rise in the market since 2008 and this trend is set to continue in strength throughout 2010.

Home swaps are another popular holiday style that will dominate in 2010. With all the self catering amenities you could ever want, this home from home holiday seems like an ideal solution for folks looking for a great but ultra cheap vacation. Only having to purchase low cost flights means home swappers can forgo the usual expenses of accommodation and spend their money on sightseeing and fun activities instead.

With the summer holidays fast approaching these travel trends for 2010 are already beginning to kick in so, if you’re looking for a great deal on a holiday or just want to try something different, this could just be the best year for you to bag a bargain holiday both at home and abroad.
