History
The Archaeologists during excavations of the nearby mountains have found that this town had inhabitants during Neolithic and Paleolithic times. This city was known as the Salt City during Roman times.
When the Muslims ruled this city, they built a castle and enclosed it with walls. The origin for the name Marbella was the term Marbil-la and this has been in existence during the Islamic era. Ibn Battuta was the tourist who described this town as a beautiful little town where the soil is fertile. In the year 1485 this city was taken over by Spaniards and they ruled it for centuries. The city progressed well in this period.
