The canyon has 9 vertical zonations from alpine ice-snow zonation to low river-valley tropical monsoon forest and is rich in biological resources, including two-thirds known higher plants, one-seconds known mammals and four-fifths known insects of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, and three-fifths known macro-fungi of China, so it absolutely can be ranked as “The Most Species in the World”. Yarlung Zangbo River is the largest vapor channel on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Influenced by the warm and wet airflow, the amount of precipitation of the south section of the canyon hits 4000 mm, and the north section is also between 1500mm to 2000mm, so the whole region of the canyon is thoroughly moist, and covered with luxuriant and dense forests, forming a canyon with the most abundant biological variety.
