City Of Marbella
Overview
The city of Marbella is near the Mediterranean; it is located in the Malaga province in the autonomous community of Andalusia in Spain. The population in this city is about 135,000.
Two of the most popular beach resorts in the ‘Sun Coast region’ are – Marbella and the marina Puerto Ban?s. Marbella is popular among the people who are wealthy celebrities. Rich tourists from North Europe, Germany, United Kingdom and Ireland patronize this city. Of late this city is losing its reputation because of corruption and organized crime. The nearest airport to this city is M?laga.
This city is popular among golfers and also tennis lovers.
History
The Archaeologists during excavations of the nearby mountains have found that this town had inhabitants during Neolithic and Paleolithic times. This city was known as the Salt City during Roman times.
When the Muslims ruled this city, they built a castle and enclosed it with walls. The origin for the name Marbella was the term Marbil-la and this has been in existence during the Islamic era. Ibn Battuta was the tourist who described this town as a beautiful little town where the soil is fertile. In the year 1485 this city was taken over by Spaniards and they ruled it for centuries. The city progressed well in this period.

Important monuments in this city are:
1.Las B?vedas – these are Roman baths used for socializing and bathing

4.Church of the Incarnation – 16th century building remodeled and restructured
5.Villa Romana de Rio Verde – 2000 years old ruins along Verde river
6.Bonsai museum – contains miniature trees, large bonsai trees, landscaped areas and rock plantings that give an oriental feel
7.Contemporary Engraving Museum – Contains historic engravings, art works by Picasso, Miro, etc.
Sports and Entertainment
The coastline of Marbella is about 27 KM and there are 24 beaches within the municipal limits of the city. This coastline is full of restaurants, cafes and buildings on one side whereas on the other side the Mediterranean exists.
Some of the beaches here are – Artola, Alicate, Calahonda, Casa Blanca, El Ancon, El Cable, El Faro, El Pinillo, La bajadilla, La Fontainilla, etc.
You can jet-ski, water bike, wind surf, underwater dive, sail, star spot, cable ski and enjoy balloon flights.
