Home for the holidays on a budget

Home for the holidays on a budget

The summer is gone and fall has set in on most of us around the country.  Cooler weather will is on the way and before we know it, the holiday season will be upon us.  I’m not much on the cool weather, but I am big on getting together with the family on holidays.  My closest relative lives 150 miles away from me and my only son lives half way across the country.  Being he is only 3 ? years old, it is up to me to get there to see him during the year when I don’t have him for the summer.  I try to get there as much as possible, but sometimes work and this horrible economy prevents me from getting there as much as I would like to.  That’s why it is very important to make travel arrangements as early as possible when you know you will be traveling over the holidays.  This time of year is meant to be spent with family and especially your children if  you happen to be divorced.  Nothing makes me happier than to see the excitement that my son shows when Santa is on his way, even if he is more amused by the box the present comes in instead of the actual gift.  Even though traveling is expensive, there are steps you can take to minimize the costs.

1. Shop around for the best deals on flights and hotels
2. Ask friends and relatives for advice on hotels and places they have stayed
3. If you are driving, bring snacks and drinks along to cut the costs of eating out.
4. Make reservations at least 3 weeks in advance of travel
5. Make sure your vehicle is up to date on maintenance
6. Rent a fuel efficient car if you have a gas burner
7. Eat before you get to the airport.  Everything in there and on the plane is expensive.
8. Choose a carrier that doesn’t charge for checked baggage.  ( if you can find one) Southwest is my favorite.

These are just a few ways I have found to minimize costs while traveling.  I’m sure you can think of a few more, but the most important thing is to make sure you spend the holidays with your loved ones.

Eating Places within Glasgow Airport Terminal

Eating Places within Glasgow Airport Terminal

Shoppers at  Glasgow Airport can enjoy the duty free shopping and certainly purchase a good buy at the exact same moment. Passengers can easily select elegant merchandise such as : perfume, beautiful goods, homemade wine, spirits and  a lot more. The products usually are purchased air side at Glasgow Airport and people may then take their goods on board the airplane with them. Generally selling prices are considerably lower in the duty free shops than passengers can purchase in the merchants outside the airport. If you could have forgotten about to buy anything for your vacation or a memento then that is a very good time to catch up on your gift store shopping.

When you’ve completed your buying chances. You’ll feel peckish and thirsty and may possibly choose to have a seat at one of several  coffee shops , bookstores and pubs that the Glasgow  International Airport has to offer you. If you have time for a pleasant stress-free beverage ahead of your trip. Then you may be able to sit down at maybe the Drum and Monkey and purchase a great pub meal with your beverage. They are given an A3 size sheet filled with puzzles and word queries and pictures to colour in with the eating place supplying the crayons and pencils. Everybody is kept content whilst taking pleasure in their meal.

In Glasgow there is usually a well known fish and chip eaterie called Harry Ramsdens. Families will also find one available within the terminal. They can also sit down and appreciate their own fish tea at the international airport restaurant before they catch their aircraft.

Inside the international airport you are able to also find Greggs and O’Briens sandwich shop offering mouth watering sandwichs, snacks and filled rolls which are out of this world.

Remembering everyones favourite MacDonald’s and Burger King. Nearly everyone enjoys a big mac, chicken royal, chicken macsandwich and not forgetting the ice cream.

Avoid Conflicts When you Travel for the Holidays

Avoid Conflicts When you Travel for the Holidays

It can be great fun to spend the holidays with your family and friends, but there always seems to be a few people that you wish to avoid as well. Planning ahead can help you to avoid conflicts when you travel for the holidays. Remember that each person is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions. Agree to disagree on issues that pertain to politics and various types of controversial issues.

Everyone should take care of their own children during a gathering for the holidays. This is to prevent issues that arise when different parenting styles are in play. Make sure your children understand before you travel for the holidays that you expect them to follow the same rules they have at home regardless of what other children there will be allowed to do. This will help to prevent confusion and frustration for everyone involved in the gathering for the holidays.

In order to ensure everyone has a great time let those that will be in attendance help to place the events. Make sure someone is in charge of activities for the children to enjoy too. Take a look at the span of age groups that will be present at the event and either come up with activities for all of them to enjoy together or break them up into groups based on age.

Make sure everyone gets to take on a role for the holiday gathering that they will enjoy. This way the overall event will be a success and everyone will look forward to attending. Don’t leave certain people to clean up from the dinner or the activities just because you assume that is what they want to do. Knowing what your role is before you travel for the holidays allows you to be prepared for it.

Food is a common part of any holiday gathering but it can be a problem for some people. Before you travel for the holidays make sure the host is aware of any special foods you will need to have or to avoid. They can even offer dishes without meat for those that are on a vegetarian diet. Some people have an allergy to peanut oil or other foods though that need to be taken into consideration. Don’t wait until you arrive to tell them as it can mean foods they spent time preparing will have to be thrown out.

If you have an unresolved issue with someone that will be at the family gathering you should attempt to contact them prior to the event. This will help both of you to relieve the tension and anxiety over the situation. If it is something that can’t be resolved then ask them to agree to put your differences aside for the sake of everyone else that will be in attendance.

It doesn’t mean you have to become best friends at the event but don’t waste your energy being in conflict with the individual. Focus on the good memories that you can create for your family during the holidays instead. Too many families end up with parties missing for the gathering because they don’t want to attend if someone else is. Taking the high road so that everyone can enjoy their holiday more is an amazing gift you can give to them.
