Pubs, Bars & Restaurants in Malta

Pubs, Bars & Restaurants in Malta

If your holiday in Malta is likely to involve more than just a few visits to the local bars & restaurants, then here are just a few ‘pointers’ for you.

The cost of local lager & beer as well as branded beers & spirits is still generally cheaper than the UK in most of the Malta bars. As you might expect, it would be impossible to suggest that prices will be cheaper in all bars & restaurants in Malta but suffice to say that in 70%-80% of establishments, they will be. In fact, at this time, there are still places offering pint cans of lager for just €1.

As for spirits, they will be slightly cheaper than the UK & most bars can offer you a double measure of the local equivalent spirit for the same price as an alternative. Malta’s wines are also available at very reasonable prices & some of them are of an exceptionally high quality. In most of the more popular Malta holiday locations (ie..Sliema, St Julians, Bugibba, Qawra, St Paul’s Bay and Mellieha) there is a huge choice of local bars & restaurants. As a general rule, the closer to the sea or the better the view, then you can expect the price of drinks & dining out to be a little higher. This can also be the case if live entertainment is offered although not always. If you venture a little away from the seafront or busiest spots, you may well find some of the best pubs & bars in Malta offering cheaper drinks. And, lastly, if you’re partial to lager beer, you must try the local Maltese brew called Cisk (pronounced Chisk). It is of an excellent quality & has won many awards worldwide. Pint bottles of Cisk usually cost around €2.

When it comes to dining out in Malta, & in particular around the holiday areas mentioned previously, you will surely be spoilt for choice. English, continental & Maltese cuisine are served in almost all the restaurants in Malta. Fresh fish & Maltese rabbit would certainly be excellent choices and, as a rule, the price of a 3 course meal will still be cheaper than in the UK. Freshly prepared pizza as well as Chinese & Indian cuisine are to be found in most areas too. At the time of writing, there are still many Malta restaurants offering a very good 3 course meal with plenty of choice for around €10. It pays to shop around & as mentioned previously, don’t just stick to the seafront & busiest spots but instead try some of the places tucked away nearby.

In conclusion, there is a huge choice of pubs, bars & restaurants in Malta all usually within just a few metres of each other so do take your time to decide.
