Traveling Around Singapore

Singapore is one the most visited tourist destinations in Asia. Known for its gleaming shopping malls and squeaky clean streets, Singapore ceaselessly draws tourists. Getting around Singapore is fast and convenient. Diligently developed Mass Rapid Transport is the most efficient mode to move around the city while the buses are most affordable means of transport.

Mass Rapid Transport

Mass Rapid Transport, commonly known as MRT is the most convenient and rapid means to travel around. The three MRT main lines in Singapore are the North-South line from Marina Bay to Jurong East, the East-West line from Changi Airport/Pasir Ris to Boon Lay, and the North-East line from Harbour Front to Punggol. The three lines cover most of the places in Singapore.

Buses

Buses, as everywhere, are the most affordable means of transport in Singapore. Though it is the least likely that an international tourist would use them. The buses ply on most routes from morning at 6 o’clock to midnight. Bus stations display the fares and destinations of the route. Bus transport in the city is corporatised. The two main public transport providers are SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation. Normal length buses, double deckers and mini buses ply on the roads. Special night service is also offered.

Taxis

Taxis are another convenient way to move around. Metred and air-conditioned taxis are available in all nooks and corners of Singapore. If traveling in night, one has to pay surcharge. You can also phone a taxi to get them your place of residence or flag down one on the roads. Taxi-stands are located outside major shopping centres and hotels.

Cars

For more convenience, you could decide to hire a car. For driving yourselves, you would need to possess an international driver’s permit. However, parking could be a problem in Singapore. You could purchase parking coupons from petrol stations and post offices.

Cable Cars

In Sentosa Island, the tourist hub, you can use Cable Cars. An entertaining mode of travel, they would give a sweeping view of the island.
