Now it is time to allocate some time to yourself – go SHOPPING! Believe me, it will be unforgettable, just visit Rockefeller Center, actually, it was built to meet the demands of people, in order they be able to come here and buy everything they need! It is favorite shopping and meeting place not only for tourists, but for New Yorkers, as well! It is a big underground city, uniting 14 of the 19 buildings or rise 65 stories to the Rainbow Room. Be careful, it is possible to get lost in its labyrinth!

And the last pastime for your week-end – Spirit Cruises. Be sure, after shopping, having meal in different parts of New York City, you will have an opportunity to get rest and to think about your wonderful time you had in New York!

On Top of the World

As I wound my way upwards, my breath became more laboured and by degrees, it became more of an effort to make the lengthy ascent. I stopped for a while regaining my composure and looking out at the already magnificent vistas and then upwards toward my goal, I realised that the rocky bastions above were now obtainable and so I pressed ever onward until finally, I had completed my task. I took a moment to savour this victory before looking out across the landscape to enjoy the view…it seemed as though I was standing on top of the world.

Not a bit of it; but a fond memory of my ascent of Edinburgh Castle Hill some years ago when I took a City Break in that great Midlothian Capital. I remember it so well, as my break in Edinburgh was one of the best times of my life. I remember booking into a superb hotels in Edinburgh; the Melville Castle Hotel, which was actually a real 18th century Castle. I figured at the time that if I were going to check into an Edinburgh Hotel it might as well be a good one and with only 32 guest rooms and set as it was in around 50 acres of parkland, this was going to be a bit of an urban oasis.

I didn’t linger long, however, magnificent as my hotel in Edinburgh was, I also wanted to see the sights of the Scottish Capital and so it was, that I got a cab to take me to my destination just 20 minutes away.

The most stunning attraction in Edinburgh (apart from my Edinburgh Hotel – which to this day still stays in my memory) must be Edinburgh Castle. It sits atop a huge volcanic outcrop and it overlooks and dominates the City. A trip to the summit will reward the visitor with magnificent views as well as interesting and historic attractions within the castle itself. It will be of interest that public transport is available to take you to the summit of Castle Hill, but there are always some intrepid souls who wish to savour the Castle experience and make the lengthy ascent on foot (as I did). For those brave individuals, it will be of comfort to know that on the return journey, a well stocked Pub awaits at the base of the hill!

There are scores of other fabulous attractions to be found in Edinburgh though and I have fond memories of walking through the Georgian splendour of many of the fine streets, taking in the magnificent shops of central Edinburgh as well as the open spaces of Edinburgh Botanical Gardens and Holyrood Park; this is matched by my remembrances of fine dining and the great social and nightlife that I encountered there.

All in all the City gave me some of the best times that I have had and I cannot recommended it highly enough…all that I can say is; to get yourself up to Edinburgh, get yourself booked into an Edinburgh Hotels and grab yourself some happy memories!

After renting cars for over a dozen years I’ve come to have very specific expectations about the whole rental car experience. I expect the car to be clean and get me to my destination in relative comfort. What I don’t expect is an exciting driving experience that I would want to share with everyone. Please understand I’m not unhappy I just don’t normally equate fun-to-drive with your average rental.

Rental car companies have real performance cars

I understand that car rental companies such as Avis, Budget and Hertz also include in their fleets rental cars that you do want to drive. These cars include models such as the Nissan 350Z, Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro. Avis calls their special car class Cool Cars while Budget has the Budget Street Fleet and Hertz has its Fun Collection.

The challenge to renting one of these special cars will be finding an available car for your destination. Rental cars companies typically have limited numbers of these cars in their fleet. Which means don’t expect to be able to rent a Camaro right at the rental car counter. Chances are one won’t be available when you want it. But don’t worry renting a performance car isn’t that hard but it will take a little planning because rental car companies usually make these types of cars available in areas where they are most popular.

Finding the rental you want

What worked well for me was to start with the rental car company sites and their car guide section. I’ve been interested in trying out the new 2010 Camaro. I narrowed my choice to Avis Cool Cars and Budget Street Fleet since they carried both the Camaro LT and Camaro SS (the V8 version). Avis offers the Camaro in over sixty cities throughout the U.S. including Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles. My travel plans for the next month included a trip to Los Angeles so I booked the Camaro SS.

When I finally got behind the wheel of the Camaro rental I was pleasantly surprised to find this was no stripped down car. The Camaro completely lived up to the buzz. Renting a higher-end car does come with a premium rate. But I think the higher rate was more than offset by the drivability of the car. If renting a Camaro or other performance car sounds like an option then remember to book early because these cars are definitely in demand.
