Koh Samui Tips – How to Get Around Koh Samui by Looking at a Map of Koh Samui

Koh Samui Tips – How to Get Around Koh Samui by Looking at a Map of Koh Samui

Firstly, you may want to take a look at some Koh Samui maps. I have found two good sites that have maps or point you to where you can find good Koh Samui maps. You can find two links for this in the last paragraph.

As you look at your Koh Samui map, you will notice the two major places where visitors arrive are on opposite sides of the island. If you come by a Koh Samui ferry, you will most likely arrive at Nathon pier, which you can see is on the west coast of the island. Or, if you fly you can see the airport is on the other side of the island on the northeastern peninsula. Chaweng and Lamai beaches are the west coast and the most populous and popular areas. The central part of the island has some beautiful jungle but some of it is off limits as it is military land. To get to Koh Phangan, you can take a ferry from Nathon or from the northern beaches of Bophut and Maenam.

Now that you have an idea of the layout by looking at a map of Koh Samui, you will need to know how to get around. Anyone who has been there has his or her own Koh Samui tips, but there are a few constants. If you are someone who likes a comfortable trip and doesn’t mind paying for it, you can take a taxi. There have been some wars of words between the local government and the taxi drivers because they have a bad reputation. Anyway, they will always try to charge you high rates, even 200 to 300 baht. They have negotiated to start rates around 100 baht now but they hate to use the meter. Whatever they quote, just try to negotiate nicely and with a smile. If you want a cheaper ride, take the songthaews (pickup trucks with benches in the back). You should not have to negotiate. Just pay 50 or 60 baht after you get off every time. If they try to charge more, tell them nicely that you know you do not have to pay more, give the money, and leave.

As you can see, there are not that many options for transportation. If you hate to negotiate and can afford it, I recommend renting a vehicle. There are many places on the island to rent a vehicle for around 1000 baht per day and up. There is even an Avis Rent-a-Car at the airport. Drive carefully (on the left side of the road, not the right) and cautiously. Also, I recommend not renting a motorbike as it is the number one killer for tourists as you will not be used to the roads and rules of the road. Best to avoid this accident waiting to happen.

Now you know the basics of how to get around the beautiful island of Koh Samui. Remember, if you have any trouble, the best thing to do in Thailand is to just smile and walk away.

A History of Lincoln Part 2

A History of Lincoln Part 2

The raising of the siege of The Castle of Mont Sorel and Lincoln Castle.
The army of Louis and the barons of England arrived at Dunstable, and there spent the night. In the morning it marched northward, hastening to the relief of the castle of Mont Sorel, Earl Ralph of Chester and the others who were with him besieging it, were informed of this by their scouts, and retreated to the castle of Nottingham, where they determined to watch the progress of their approaching enemies.
When the barons then arrived at the castle of Mont Sorel, after pillaging in their usual custom all the cemeteries and churches on their march, it was determined  to march to Lincoln, where Gilbert de Gant and other barons had carried on a long siege without success.
They marched through the valley of Belvoir, and there everything fell into the hands of these robbers, because the soldiers of the French kingdom were the refuse and scum of that country who left nothing untouched.  Their poverty and wretchedness was so great, that they had not enough clothing to cover their nakedness.  At length they arrived at Lincoln, and the barons then made fierce assaults on the castle, whilst the besieged returned fire with missiles and stones and deadly weapons.
The king of England assembled an army to raise the siege of the castle of Lincoln.
Whilst these events were passing here, William Marshall, the guardian of the king and kingdom, by the advice of Walo the legate, Peter bishop of Winchester, and others by whose counsels the business of the kingdom was arranged, persuaded the castellans belonging to the king.
He also persuaded the knights who were in charge of castles in different parts of the kingdom, ordering them, on the command of the king, to assemble at Newark on the second day in Whitsun week, to proceed together to raise the siege of Lincoln castle.
They had a desire to engage with the excommunicated French, and also to fight for their country. They arrived at the time and place pre-arranged, with the legate himself and many other prelates of the kingdom.  With horses and soldiers, to assail with prayers as well as arms, these enemies of their king, and rebels against their lord the pope, it appeared to them they had a just cause of war, especially as he was innocent, and a stranger to sin.
When they were all assembled together, there were four hundred knights, nearly two hundred and fifty crossbow men, and an innumerable host of followers and horsemen, who could on emergency fulfil the duties of soldiers.  The chiefs of this army were William Marshall, William his son, Peter Bishop of Winchester, a man well skilled in warfare, Ralph Earl of Chester, William Earl of Salisbury, E. William Earl of Ferrars and William Earl of Albemarle
There were also there the barons, William D’ Albiney, John Marshall, William de Cantelo, William his son, the renowned Falkes de Breaute, Thomas Basset, Robert de Viport, Brian de L’Isle, Geoffrey de Lucy, and Philip d’Albiney, with many castellans of experience in war.
They stayed three days at Newark, to refresh the horses and men, and in the meantime they went to confession asking for the Lord’s protection against the attacks of their enemies.  All of them were prepared for extremities, and were determined to conquer or die in the cause of right.

Want More Value For Your Vacation Dollars

Want More Value For Your Vacation Dollars?

Now you can vacation as often as you want, and  get more value for your vacation dollar than ever before.  Now you can do away with the concerns over increasing maintenance costs and limited availability many vacationers experience with TimeShare.  You can still enjoy Caribbean vacations, villa vacations or destination vacations for life for a one-time, low fixed fee at four and five-star resorts with great availability. And what’s the cost at your destination vacation under this new membership program?  Much lower than you’d ever expect to pay for the quality and luxurious locations around the world you’ll experience as a member.

I wish I had known about this before I ventured into my TimeShare experience.  While I had a great destination vacation location in Hilton Head, SC, my maintenance fees grew from $150 per week to over $950.  Trading and banking weeks didn’t always produce the result I hoped for either as many locations just were not available when I needed them.  And that $950 times 6 weeks of TimeShare ownership became more expensive than most vacations I could have taken anywhere else on the planet!   I certainly wasn’t getting value for my vacation dollars.

Want more out of your vacations and less cost.?  Has Time Share lost its luster?   Tired of limited availability of your desired Time Share vacation resort?  Most people I know answer “Yes” to those questions and have a list of “learning experiences” longer than your arm.  I used to be one of them because I didn’t know any better.  I’ve finally gotten out from under the burden of those 6 weeks, having sold them  at an average price below what I paid years ago.  So much for the investment concept.  The market is flooded with TimeShare resorts making them a less valued investment than ever before and with rising maintenance costs, leaving you, the owner, holding the bag.

Your experience can be hassle free and it can provide you with desktop access through a website you can surf at your leisure.  This new vacation membership program provides you with vacations for life at costs often less than half the typical “rack rates” you have likely experienced.  In other words, you’ll recover your one-time membership within 1 to 2 years if you use the plan to your advantage.

Follow this link https://www.globalresortsnetwork.comgeneharbula to the website and see for yourself.  It’s fun and you can discover vacations that offer you and your family a lifetime of get-aways and memories.  Take the tour and decide for yourself.  What could be easier?  You could be traveling anywhere you desire in just a few days.  Or, you can call me directly at your convenience and I’ll walk you through the opportunity to get more value for your vacation dollar.
